The young man gets down on his knee. He draws out of his pocket, a small box. He opens it in front of his girlfriend. He asks her to marry him. He spent several hundred dollars on this ring. It was several weeks work. He still got her a gorgeous ring. Little did he know however. He could have saved a lot more money. Synthetic diamonds, once only a dream, have now become a reality. The usage of these diamonds in jewelry is doing less damage to their checkbook. Synthetic diamonds are superior to mined diamonds.

With many people, they automatically assume that synthetic diamonds are fake. They assume it is made out of plastic. Most people would be surprised to find out they are wrong. Recent advances have made it so that cut synthetic diamonds are impossible to distinguish from mined diamonds. Synthetic diamonds are grown in a solution of molten carbon. Then it’s pressurized in the same conditions found in volcanic forge that would naturally form diamonds. This process takes place in a machine the size of a washing machine. It can currently create diamonds up to 3 karats. It will eventually be able to create much larger diamonds too.
