Don’t Press My Buttons: The New Video Gamer

Paragraph:

I’m not afraid to admit it. I have a level 70 Blood Elf Priest that resides on the servers of World of Warcraft; I have a subscription to Xbox Live; I know the difference between a FPS, RGP, RTS, and MMORPG. In layman’s terms, I play video games. I am what society would call a video gamer, or “gamer” for short. Now, what images does this word conjure up in people’s minds? Stereotypically, many people may think that people who engage in video game play are social shut-outs, individuals with little to no social skills, obsessed with their games, violent, and terribly lazy. This stigma of video gamers must come to an end, it is a stereotype that is found and is running rampant even here at BYU. A vast number of students play video games at BYU and many have felt the unnecessary shame and embarrassment for engaging in such an innocent pastime. They are ashamed and even hide the fact that they play video games but these feelings must end! Video gamers are no longer the shrew-like cretins they once were; developments in the video game culture have changed the very faces of video gamers. These negative stereotypes towards video games and video gamers are outdated and misplaced and must be dispelled through the knowledge of the advancements and changes to the video game culture.

Awesome, I played WoW a while back. &0 Blood Elf Hunter, 70 Troll Mage, and 64 Blood Elf Warlock. Good times.

Its good to see that gamer culture is slowly leeking its way into mainstream ideals.

You had good credibility and you made it known why we as students at BYU should be informed about this. Nice job...very interesting maybe on your Mario title you should say "Mario isn't ashamed..." Just an idea...but good job!

What a great title. I think that the subject matter of video games establishes the kairos because so many students at BYU play them.

Well done. You established both your ethos and kairos very well. I think a lot of people at BYU would find this interesting to read. I like the title "We're no longer n00bs: The Changed Video Gamer" the most.
