The Endless Stair

Almost everyone who has been a student at BYU has had the experience of hiking up and down the staircase that leads up to campus from the Richards Building. Perhaps you have had a class to get to right after a PE class so you had to rush up the stairs to make it on time. Maybe you have had a hard time finding a spot in the parking lot by the IPF and had to run to make it to class on time, only to get there sweaty and out of breath. If this sounds familiar to you, I think you would agree with me that those stairs are at the least an inconvenience, and in some cases a nearly insurmountable obstacle. To improve student life, BYU should install an escalator in the place of that staircase.
As a student-athlete at BYU, I spend a lot of time in the Smith Fieldhouse and IPF for my practices and workouts, and like all students I also have classes on the main level of campus. I am constantly wearied from the repeated ascent and descent of the seemingly endless staircase. This problem is especially grave at times when I have just finished a workout and my legs have little strength left in them, and yet my education depends on my getting up the stairs to class. I know that I am not alone in my sentiment, for all student-athletes at BYU encounter the same challenge. In fact, almost all students at BYU have had a PE class or some other reason to be physically exhausted and face the dreaded stair. I think that all would appreciate the help that an escalator would provide.
BYU is an outstanding school with a long-standing tradition of excellence. It has always provided everything within its means to help its students get a good education. In keeping with this tradition, BYU should install an escalator in the place of the RB stairs, and provide the students much needed relief from the physical exhaustion of climbing the stairs.

This would be so cool to have, not only for the athletes who work their butts off everyday but also for those of us who are lazy and don't want to walk up those stairs.

Having an escalator here would be amazing! In the winter it would prevent people from slipping on the icy steps. BYU should really consider this.

I hate this staircase I got a better work out from it than my volleyball class last semester.

Once a couple of teammates of mine on the lacrosse team vomited after we had to climb them several times. So, just for my enjoyment, let's leave them there.

Those stairs are a real beast, but I like how BYU is divided with the upper and lower campus, it just gives it more class, and with how delicious BYU chocolate milk is, maybe the do need to keep us exercising more.

I am going to have to agree with Brent on this on just because that comment was so awesome. But on a serious note, you seem to be an expert on how bad those stairs are. As a result, they should be destroyed and I should be able to help destroy them because of all the pain they have caused me.
