Family Girl

My major is currently undecided, but I am leaning towards Home and Family Living. This is the best major on campus because, as President David O McKay said, "No success can compensate for failure in the home." The family is the most important unit of society. We won't all be doctors, teachers, lawyers, nurses, athletes, businessmen or women, but we are all members of a family. A large majority of us will be parents. It is important that we know how to raise a functional family and that is why I have considered Home and Family Living. In addition, the family is the only unit in society that continues hereafter.

You did a great job! It was short, simple and to the point.

Fantastic point! We all want to make money! We all want to be successful in our JOB. But what about FAMILY? You hit the subject right on! Excellent post! Oh and yes I do like your [probable] major choice!

I love that quote from David O. McKay and agree completely. For the longest time I felt that I should pursue a major that would help my family, such as Home and Family Living, Nursing, or Elementary Education. Being a mother or father is the most important role anyone will ever have. However, I realized I don’t need to major in “mothering” in order to be a good mother. I believe that whatever subject interests me most I should pursue because ultimately every major can somehow help you with your future family. For me, communications will help me be able to calmly speak to my family, co-workers, friends, or anyone! If you really want to pursue this major, go for it. I think anyone who wants to be a good parent should prepare first so they can provide for their children’s need. However, don’t just rule out another major just because you think Home and Family Living is the only major that will allow you to be a good parent. I can guarantee you Lehi and Sariah were “goodly parents” without that degree.

Very good point. Someone needs to take care of the family and raise the kids. My mom wanted to do something with math, I'm not sure what it was, but she didn't. She became a stay at home mom instead and raised my brothers and me. Without her I would not be who I am today.
