Bad Paragraphs:
You wake up and there is snow everywhere. You aren’t very happy. You get ready for the day and go outside. The snow is very wet and heavy. It makes everything very slippery. As the day goes on the snow starts to melt. Everything is now very wet and slushy. Night comes and it all starts to freeze. Now you really don’t want to go outside. There are giant piles of frozen snow all around and the roads are sheets of ice. You look around and there are no snow plows to be seen. If there had been snow plows around the roads would be clear and not frozen. Provo needs more snow plows.
I come from Vail, Colorado. It is a very snowy place. The roads in the town get around 200 inches a year. There is, just like in Provo, an interstate running through it. The difference is that Vail’s roads are clear more than they are not clear. Even when Vail gets over 2-3 feet over night, the kids still have to go to school. There has not been a snow day or anything like one since 1976. Yes, Vail is a ski resort town so the roads are clear for the tourists. That doesn’t mean it should be the only place with snow plows though.
Good Paragraphs:
You wake up in the morning and look outside to see what the weather is like. No surprise to you, it is snowing again. The sidewalks and streets are covered and you are not able to differentiate between the grass and the sidewalk. You get ready for the day, go outside and almost fall and kill yourself because the snow is extremely wet. The day progresses and the snow turns into slush making everything wet. Night settles and the temperature decreases; the slush freezes and the roads become ice-skating rinks. You wonder why the roads have not been cleared of all the snow and ice yet and it hits you. There are no snow plows anywhere to be seen and you have not seen one all day. The only reasonable explanation is that Provo does not have enough snow plows, and this problem needs to be fixed fast.
Coming from Vail, Colorado, I have firsthand experience with large amounts of snow. The Vail Valley averages around 200 inches of snowfall per winter season. Even with this large amount of snow falling on the roads, and the interstate that goes through the valley, the roads are rarely covered in snow and ice. Even when it snows 2-3 feet in a single night the kids have to go to school because the roads are clear. The public school system in the valley has not given the kids a snow day since 1976. Yes, this is largely due to the fact that Vail is a ski resort town and the roads need to be kept clear so the tourists can get up skiing, but the roads would not be clear if there were not any snow plows.
