Americans have a unique mindset. Most American’s believe that you have to own all the latest, biggest, and best merchandise available. Until recently, they have not begun to recognize that their vast consumption of goods is having a detrimental impact on the environment. So, the new American philosophy is to buy green products; however, when an excessive amount of green products are used it still has an impact on the environment. If Americans want to help save the environment they need to consume less.

You should switch the two sentences, making the second one first, and the first one second. Other than that, it looks good!
I would agree on switching the two sentences would be better for your syllogism. I also like your point that you are bringing up and I am curious to see where this is going but the rest of it is fin just watch your tense because when you start talking about the past it could become easy to mess up the tense.
