2 zone limit!?

When you’re not at school, you’re at home; however, housing here at BYU has become limited to a 2 mile zone, affecting more people than not. Perhaps those who have obtained good housing have no problems with this, but when you stray further out to find a better deal, it’s slim-pickings, and it becomes harder to conform to the rules BYU has set forth. The 2-mile zone has been put in for probably a number of reasons: to keep better track of student’s, more control over housing requirements, and less contact outside “the bubble” of Provo. These reasons seem very insignificant when you think that many married and single couples of BYU struggle to find cheap, affordable housing near BYU. Because of supply and demand, housing apartments within BYU’s zone can charge more. To counteract some of the reasons for this zone (and I’m sure there are many other reasons), BYU, while try as they must, cannot keep the bad things from interacting with other students at BYU. If a student gets involved with questionable circumstances, it is up to him or her to make the decision, and whether 2 miles or 5 miles from BYU, they will make a decision based upon their moral values. A further zone would help lax the need for housing, and would BYU would still be able to keep track of students.

I think you did a good job in making your point clear. Housing is a big hassle, and luckily I am still single and don’t have to worry about going through the crucible that is “finding married housing”. Something needs to change, because while BYU continues to get bigger and apartments around it get older, a need for new apartments is going to become a real problem.
