History -- it marks us all

Even though my current major is political science, I am soon changing it to history. I think that not only is history the most important major at BYU, but it is also the most important subject available for study. My reasons behind this are simple: history deals with everything. Take psychology, for example. There is a history behind psychology (i.e. there are dates related to when Freud came up with his theories of psychoanalysis, and there are dates when cognitive dissonance began being widely used.). Furthermore, geology is full of history: the Universe is at least thirteen billion years old, while the earth is about 4.6 billion years old. Everything relates to history. Moreover, everyone knows something about their own personal history, or the histories of others. Little children know when they were born, or how old they are. You will seldom find an educated human being who has not heard of World War I or World War II. History affects all of our lives and can not be avoided. That is why it is the best.

I almost was a history major for a while, but I ended up decided that it was too much reading, even for me, considering I love reading.

History is a really cool major. I find it a fascinating subject, with loads and loads of interesting details. History is pretty important because it should allow us to learn from the mistakes of the past, and hopefully prepare for the future.

I agree, it's probably the most important major out there. It covers so many areas that you are bound to know something from every category, giving you endless job possibilities. I also agree with what teng said "it should allow us to learn from the mistakes of the past, and hopefully prepare for the future." Well put, and it helps us predict consequences also.
