Whenever one goes to the gas pump or reads a statement from the electric company, it is easy to see that we are in an energy crisis. There are more people in America than ever, and our ever increasing demand for technology increasing our need of electricity. In the past the vast majority of our energy has come from fossil fuels, but these pose many risks including pollution and limited supply. America needs to turn to alternative fuels to allow for our current energy consumption to continue. One often overlooked source of cheap reliable energy is nuclear power. Sometimes mischaracterized and demonized nuclear power has been proven to be safe and effective. Nuclear power is safe enough that the United States Navy uses it to power submarines and aircraft carriers. More people have died in the United States from coal mine and power plant accidents than from nuclear power incidents. The answer to the energy crisis is to build more nuclear power plants. This will allow America to keep its current standard of living and not further endanger the environment.
