Give me a 'break'!

While most of my other friends at different universities are still planning what they will be doing this spring break, I already have my plans set in stone! That’s right, BYU is one of the very few universities that has classes right on through spring break. Along with this, there are only a few holidays we are allowed during the winter semester. We all know that school, classes and homework all maintain constant pressure in our lives, and one of the well know things that can relieve some of this pressure is a break, even if it is just for one day. I am very confident in saying that I am not alone in saying that we deserve more breaks during the winter break. Having a just a few random days off during the semester would allow us to have some time to rest from the classes, drop our stress level down a couple of levels and definitely some time to catch up on papers and reading. I know in doing this we would all be happier and more hardworking students. Studies have shown that an occasional break from the normal routine motivates people in whatever endeavor they may be undertaking. Even if it is just a few more days during the semester, we deserve a real break during winter semester!

I totally agree with your point. Compared to other universities, BYU's holiday breaks during the Fall and Winter semesters are pathetic. I really think they are just trying to shorten the semester times to fit in summer programs like EFY, Women's Conference, and Education week. But really BYU's first priority should be the university role. It have the concerns of its students as a first priority.

I think that it would be nice to have another day or so off from classes. We all are had working students and we deserve to have a break!

Your right, we're not asking for a week of Spring Break to get hammered and become parents overnight, but maybe three or four days? Okay, some maybe a full five. You did well in establishing ethos when you included " I am not alone" which implies that you have the backing of many people. Good tool.

while, yes, a spring break would be nice...BYU really doesn't have a need, and it would really profit from one either. If you wanted a break during the spring, just wait a few weeks, semester will be over. Plus, spring break doesnt really allow room for moral, or "honor code" behavior...

I am totally behind you. Spring break is perfect snowboarding time yet I have to sit and study my brain to mush. I loved the argument.
