opinion editorial

To some the restrictions BYU placed on its students, along with an honor code which must be followed, seems unnecessary and even extreme . However, I believe these restrictions and precaution allow for a more wholesome envrionment for its students to live in. One of the more effective limitations mentioned in the honor code is for students ,especially freshman, to live in non coed dorms. Some reasons why I believe this is one it promotes morality at an age where temptation often dominates the mind. Also especially for male students who have not yet gone on a mission, non coed dorms, help to keep these students focused and ready for their eventual mission calls. Despite comments which have been made by outside forces because we have a honor code that ensures a better living standard, students will only be benefited in their future lives.
The first reason why non coed dorms benefit its students is by promoting morality. In many circumstances students of our age will become tempted and often will be distracted from more important occuptations. As I mentioned earlier remaining spritually clean for freshman is very imporant because for most a mission will soon follow their first year at college. By living in non coed dorms this can be attained much more easily.

i agree with you. the honor code is good, it's not there to take away from your fun but to help you so you don't make choices that you might regret later. now i don't think people should be so up tight about it. but i guess thats just the way it is. no qualms here

Well done. It was a focused article derived from a very broad topic. It sounds credible and mostly unbiased.
I also tend to think that living in a coed dorm, perhaps regardless of us being LDS, would simply be awkward for freshman. We certainly couldn't handle it.
