Leggings At BYU Becoming a Problem
When we know that we are daughters of God we know that wearing leggings to cover our bodies just isn’t enough. Justifying leggings under your mini skirts or with your long t-shirt does not make it coincide with the Honor Code. Wearing leggings to make your mini skirt, shorts, or dresses okay to wear is a problem here at BYU. The Honor Code specifically says, “Clothing is inappropriate when it is…above the knee or form fitting…dresses, skirts, or shorts must be knee length or longer.” It doesn’t say skirts must be knee length unless you have leggings underneath, then it doesn’t matter. It says they must be knee length, as you saw earlier as well it says that clothing that is form fitting is inappropriate as well. Leggings are completely formed fitting. I know as being a girl myself that leggings are becoming more and more popular with your clothes and they are very cute. This is to a certain point though, it does not mean that I can change the length of my skirts because I have something underneath. I have seen here on BYU’s campus girls that just wear a coat that goes to their waist, leggings, and boots. This is completely inappropriate because it looks to me that they basically just shouldn’t wear anything if they want to do that, it looks just the same. Girls should realize that this look is not attractive whatsoever. It doesn’t help guys think clean thoughts, or even girls for that matter. No one wants to see that, and as Elder Oaks said, “…women please understand that if you dress immodestly, you are magnifying the problem by becoming pornography to some of the men who see you.” If you are not dressing modestly for yourself because you know who you are and you know that you shouldn’t dress in that way at least have the respect to dress modestly for those around you. There are thousands of students at BYU and yes you might get a lot of their attention from what you wear but it is not good attention at all. It all becomes negative because now they are not looking at you as a wonderful daughter from our Heavenly Father but as an object with no real meaning inside.

I fully agree. Some of the styles these days are getting a little too um.. trendy? Maybe thats the wrong word, but the point is, is that people really need to take account of their actions realize that they aren't the only ones paying attention to their clothing choices.
I agree with you 100%. The worst is when girls wear leggings under a mini skirt to church. First of all it is freezing outside, and secondly can they seriously justify wearing that to church? For having a lot of smart people at this University we sure have a lot of brainless ones as well.
I don't see how girls, or anyone really, think that leggings are modest. It makes absolutely no sense to me.
You hit the nail on the head. I don’t understand how some girls justify dressing like that.
You made some really good points, someday leggings will transform into thin tights,and still be "acceptable". Just because your legs have a thin piece of black material does not mean that it is okay to wear a short skirt.
