Sideburns and Short Skirts and Beards, OH MY!

When I was a kid, I longed to be “popular” among my classmates. However, that proved to be a feat for me for a long time, at least up until high school. I tried everything to fit in with the cool kids: talking to them, listening to the same music they did, and even trying to dress like them. They had set a fashion trend that other girls tried to follow. One fashion trend that hit me hard was wearing tight, black leggings under short jean skirts. Before coming to BYU, I asked a friend casually “Hey Ashley, are we allowed to wear short shorts or skirts with leggings under them at BYU?” In return, she casually responded, “I’m not sure, but some people do sometimes.” Now, let’s face it. We’ve all seen it: girls wearing short jean skirts with the black leggings that extend to the middle of their calves. A fashion statement? Sure, why not. Like most students at BYU, I have seen the Honor Code broken time and time again. If anyone came to BYU wanting to wear “fashionable” clothes, it was me. However, I learned that I needed to change my attitude towards the modesty of my dress if I wanted to be a faithful Latter Day Saint attending the Lord’s University. Wanting to be “fashionable” is understandable, but we must understand that dressing in popular clothing can be done so without being immodest.

The World of Fashion: Perhaps a little bit too influential

Modest is Hottest

Sorry, I forgot a part of the material I needed to cover in this comment. I like the title that you chose to put at the top because it is creative and humorous. Good work.

The title is great, and you've shown a good job establishing your kairos as well.

You established yourself well as a credible source.

I love your title!! It is very clever and it definately gives the reader an idea of what you will be talking about in the paper. Good job with your Ethos and Kairos as well.

I would have to say that you should keep your first title because it really grabs your attention. Secondly, your kiaros and ethos are established very well in this paragraph. I would try to not say that wearing leggings under a short skirt will make you an unfaithful member of the Church because that is not true! That is like saying going into a members of the opposite sexes room will make you unworthy too.
