Dairy-free options in Brigham Young University's Twilight Zone.
Living in a dairy filled world.
Looking around the Twilight Zone I contemplate what I can grab quickly and go, “A sandwich? No, no I can't. A polish dog? Nope not that either. A burrito? A salad? No, I can't have either. Obviously not a milk or yogurt, and bagels are out of the question, because who can have a bagel without cream cheese?” What was originally going to be a quick “grab and go” becomes an extensive “read the back of all the labels to make sure there is no dairy” experience. Approximately 70 percent of the world’s population has Primary Lactase Deficiency, I am one of those unfortunate people. One would think that there would be more options available for those who suffer from, what is more commonly known as, lactose intolerance seeing as how almost 70 percent of the world's population is lactose intolerant. In a study in 1985 over 50 million adults in the United States alone suffer from lactose intolerance and the number is ever increasing. Students at BYU come from all over the world and it is safe to say that there are more lactose intolerant people here at BYU than one would think. Long story short there is little that someone who is lactose intolerant can choose from the Twilight Zone on BYU campus and it is my belief that the BYU twilight zone should have more non-dairy options.
