Which Major is Best?

False, Geology. Geology is great because it rocks. Geology is a great major because you get to learn all about the planet, and the way it works. You learn all about tectonics, volcanology, hydrology, and other nifty skills that do actually have real world job applications. Numerous jobs include government work, university jobs, and working for major oil companies in petroleum geology. I personally plan on doing volcanology, because volcanoes may be one of the coolest things on the planet. One of the other great things about it, is that there is no geology program to speak of, so there is no pressure to perform well against other students.

You said that geology rocks. I am just curious. Did you intentionally use a pun? Even if you did not, it made me laugh.

I like the pun, it’s really funny. Geology seems like a cool subject.

Yeah, it was intentional. There is one qualification for a geology major. A horrific sense of humor, with lots of bad puns.

Geology is a solid major. I took Geology 101 last semester and it really taught me a lot. It made me more appreciative of just how intricate our planet really is. I found it surprising that there are a fair number of jobs that require Geology majors.

I'm curious because you said that "there is no geology program to speak of." Is geology not really a major at BYU or did you just mean that there is not a program to get in to?

It means that Geology is a major, but there isn't a program to apply to, such as say the economics program, or accounting program, where you need to apply to get into the major.

Yes, great pun. Didn't even think of it until I read the comments. I wish business would have a sense of humor.. But right now, I'm taking GIS (Geog 212) [just for fun], and there are so many uses to it! From business oriented to saving lives and the nature! Definitely a great major!

I didn't think that volcanoes were really "cool", wouldn't they actually be quite "hot"? I liked your post.
