Grades, Godliness, and Gluttony?

One of the Seven Deadly Sins emerges at BYU! Is there hope for any college campus?

Eat, Be Full, and Marry!

It is common knowledge that a good nights rest and balanced eating habits influence how people function throughout the day. Since college students are obtaining a higher level of education it is necessary for them to be focused throughout the day so that they can pay attention in class and learn to the best of their abilities. This is a critical time period for our bodies because it is still developing by storing nutrients such as calcium. After this time frame, our body has almost completely finished developing and will rely on the supply it stored during development. For this reason we need to eat nutritious and balanced meals so that our bodies can store nutrients that are essential for us when we are older. By making good habits a part of our daily lives we will be prepared to set a good example for our families in the future. This is my first year at Brigham Young University and it was a big transition for me to start living on my own. As a freshman living off campus I began to realize the large extent that I had relied on my parents before I had moved away from home. My biggest issue was planning the meals that I would eat each day and how I would go about preparing them. Living off campus without a car made it challenging to cook because I had to plan each meal and the ingredients to prepare it. Even though I made healthy choices, my meals mainly consisted of TV dinners, lean pockets, cereal, and sandwiches. As a result of stress and a busy schedule, it was challenging for me to eat at appropriate times. Stressed out with schoolwork and a long-distance relationship, I lost my appetite and had no desire to eat regularly throughout the day. Although I struggled with eating too little, others may overeat due to readily available food, such as in the dorms. Because of our environment, time management and stress students may find it difficult to prioritize a healthy lifestyle.
